The ICM is a private research foundation recognized of public utility (Decree of 13/09/06).

"The ICM carries out research on brain and spinal cord disorders; it is equipped with cutting edge technology, the sole objective of which is the prevention, treatment and cure of brain and spinal cord disorders."
Professor Gérard Saillant, ICM Chairman
"The ICM is a unique centre, which associates, on one site patients, researchers and physicians: 800 permanent researchers, 25,000m2 of laboratories, where the best scientists from around the world will work."
Professor Yves Agid, ICM Scientific Director
“The ICM, which represents an investment of 65 million euros, will be the largest centre in the world for research in this field. It will be located in Paris on the site of the Pitié-Salpétrière Hospital, exactly where the first chair of neurology was created and where the first operation on the brain was performed.”
Professor Olivier Lyon-Caen, coordinator of the Federation of the Nervous System Disorders.
Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease, paraplegia, tetraplegia, cerebro-vascular accidents, multiple sclerosis, depression, psychoses: today, neurological and psychiatric diseases affect 1 person in 8, for a total of 10 million patients in Europe.
4 to 5 million have Alzheirmer's disease, 3 million suffer from cerebro-vascular accidents, and there are 2.5 million epileptics.
Tomorrow, the number will increase because people live longer. Today, medicine can offer relief and sometimes treat. Tomorrow, thanks to the ICM, it will be able to cure. For this to happen, we must act quickly!
